Villa move up as Bullard limps off again

Aston Villa cruised to a 3-0 win over Hull at Villa Park in a game marked by yet another injury to integral Tigers midfielder Jimmy Bullard.

Goals by Richard Dunne, James Milner and a John Carew penalty secured a comfortable victory for Villa against a Hull side knocked sideways by the injury to Bullard.

The Hull midfielder left the pitch in tears after twisting his knee after an innocuous stumble over Petrov, with Hull already a goal down at this point.

Dunne burst through a static Hull defence to finish with aplomb of the underside of the crossbar on the 13th minute. Hull were playing with just one man up front and as such struggled to maintain any sort of cohesive possession.

Just before the half hour mark the home side doubled their lead after more woeful Hull defending.

A throw in to Villa was quickly taken to Milner who lobbed the keeper from just outside the area with the Hull defenders guilty of ball watching.

Although there was still almost an hour to go in the game Hull seemed to lose all belief.

Villa completed the scoring in the 88th minute when Carew coolly slotted home a penalty after

An entertaining bottom of the table clash at Molineux saw Wolves grab a vital three points from luckless Bolton Wanderers in a 2-1 win.

The action was unrelenting starting with an opening goal after just two minutes. A wicked free kick delivered by Nenad Milijas into the area, flicked on by Christophe Berra, fell to Jody Craddock who got his foot to the ball and steered it into the back of the net. The goal pushed the home side on providing them with impetus lacking in their most recent games.

During the opening siege Ricardo Gardner had to clear off the line for the away side and Jussi Jaaskelainen produced two smart saves.

Bolton only began to threaten at the start of the second half as Wolves found themselves caught between holding what they had and trying to score another.

But just as Bolton looked like securing an equaliser Milijas seemed to have secured the three points for Wolves. The Serbian midfielder struck a magnificent 30 yard shot which flew past the helpless Jaaskelainen for a great goal.

The impressive Milijas was again centre of the action when Wolves contrived to hit the bar from one of his free kicks before the complexion of the match changed through a consolation goal by Bolton.

It was substitute Johan Elmander who forced home a scrambled corner. The goal signalled an onslaught from Bolton who did everything but score in the last ten minutes, including having a goal disallowed. But it was Wolves who hung on for a memorable win.

In stark contrast, Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool battled out a 0-0 draw in a game of few chances. Liverpool, slowly rebuilding their season, reproduced the form shown at Everton last weekend with a gritty performance ultimately lacking in quality.

Rovers, missing David Dunn and Jason Roberts, battled as only a Sam Allardyce team knows how to.

The best chance of the game fell to Liverpool and much maligned striker David Ngog, after Glen Johnson had broke down the right wing and cut the ball back to the French forward who found himself just six yards from goal.

The ball proceeded to take a massive bobble, leaving Ngog with no choice but to hit the bar with his shot before Dirk Kuyt smashed the rebound straight at Paul Robinson. ADNFCR-708-ID-19497625-ADNFCR
