Kingston signs new Quins contract

Head coach John Kingston signs new Harlequins contract
Harlequins head coach John Kingston has signed a new contract to keep him at the Twickenham Stoop until at least June 2012.

Kingston has been at the club in some capacity for the past nine-and-a-half years, although his future came under threat with the blood-gate controversy of the summer which saw massive upheaval behind the scenes.

Quins are still looking at bringing in a new director of rugby to replace Dean Richards, who was given a two-year ban from the sport for his part in the fake blood scandal that rocked the sport earlier this year.

But Kingston has chosen to remain at the club with a view to building for the future under whoever is brought in before Christmas.

He said: '18 months into my role as head coach, I am delighted to have committed myself for a further two-and-a-half years.

'Over this time, I feel we have developed a style that the players enjoy and which allows them to express themselves in a positive and successful manner.

'The squad has made giant strides and, with our summer issues well and truly behind us, I have no doubt that the next few years are going to be very exciting ones for Harlequins.'

Club chief executive Mark Evans added: 'John has been at Harlequins nearly a decade now and knows the club intimately.

'He has been instrumental in building the young and exciting team that we have today.

'He is highly respected by the management, coaching team and players at Harlequins and I look forward to continuing to work with him.'

After a difficult start to the season, Quins have seen a dramatic improvement in fortunes since late September with just one defeat in their last seven Guinness Premiership games to sit sixth in the table.ADNFCR-708-ID-19498730-ADNFCR
