Bullock football drama climbs to US top spot

Blind Side tops US box office charts after three weeks on release
American football drama The Blind Side has climbed to the top of the US box office charts after three weeks on release.

The Warner Bros film, starring Sandra Bullock, took $20.4 million (£12.5 million) in its third week to knock The Twilight Saga: New Moon from the summit.

Based on a true story, The Blind Side tells of a homeless teenager who, after being adopted by a caring family, goes on to play professional football in the NFL.

'How outstanding is it to have a movie at number one in its third weekend?' said Warner's Jeff Goldstein of the film's word-of-mouth success.

New Moon fell one place to second with war drama Brothers the highest new entry in third and crime thriller Armored debuting in sixth.

The only other new entry in the US top ten was Everybody's Fine, a remake of an Italian family drama starring Robert De Niro and Drew Barrymore.
