The Finn said he would quit F1 after being dropped by Ferrari and failing to secure a drive with McLaren next year, and hinted he would opt for a one-year deal in rally car racing.
And today, French team Citroen have said Raikkonen will race their C4 car in 12 of the 13 rounds in 2010 - missing only the New Zealand rally as part of the Junior World Rally team, Citroen's second string squad.
'I always wanted to compete in rally, especially in the World Rally Championship at some point in my career,' said Raikkonen, who will be co-driven by fellow Finn Kaj Lindstrom.
'Thanks to [Raikkonen's personal sponsors] Red Bull, I have the opportunity to drive the best car of the series with the Citroen C4. This is a new but very exciting challenge.
'For the moment we have a one-year contract and we will see how it goes for the future. I am really looking forward to testing the car and taking the start of the first rally.'
Raikkonen was initially thought to be on the verge of agreeing a switch to McLaren after it was confirmed Fernando Alonso would be taking his race seat at Ferrari in 2010.
However, due to stalled contractual negotiations and rumours of a substantial disagreement over the Finn's salary expectations, McLaren opted to pair Lewis Hamilton with fellow Briton and 2009 world champion Jenson Button.
