The Northamptonshire circuit lost the rights to host the British round of the formula one world championship to Donington Park 18 months ago.
However, Donington's plans were scuppered when its owners failed to organise their finances by the deadline set by F1 supremo Ecclestone and so Silverstone returned to the fray.
After weeks of negotiations it seemed unlikely a deal would be brokered, but the BRDC have now announced at a press conference in London that they have signed a 17-year deal with the sport's commercial rights holders from 2010 onwards.
'The title of Silverstone as home of motorsport has come true,' said BRDC president Damon Hill.
'It is a place for all motorsport. Everyone in the BRDC loves motorsport and we are looking forward to the MotoGP as well as the British grand prix.
'It is not easy to enter into a contract of this magnitude and you have to take on a lot of responsibility, but the BRDC wanted this relationship to continue.
'Everyone was well aware that the British GP is not just a sporting event, but it is dynamo of the industry in this country.
'Losing it would have been damaging and perhaps there would have been no coming back.'
Hill said the work on the new Stowe pit and paddock complex will begin in the New Year and he hopes the project will be completed in time for the 2011 race.
