Pakistan 'suicide' blast kills at least nine

Pakistan
A suspected suicide bombing in north-western Pakistan yesterday has left at least nine people dead.

The blast in the city of Peshawar left another 49 people injured, with eyewitnesses describing how the bomber pulled up outside a local court building in a rickshaw before detonating explosives when confronted by security staff.

Pakistan's prime minister Youssef Raza Gilani condemned the attack and the 'loss of innocent life'.

The incident is the latest attack by militants in recent weeks as the Pakistani military continues its offensive in South Waziristan.

Also on Monday two explosions were reported in a market in Lahore, with casualties expected.

On Friday at least 40 people are believed to have been killed when gunmen attacked a mosque in the city of Rawalpindi.

Yesterday's attack came just days after Mr Gilani countered accusations that Pakistani authorities were not doing enough in the fight against terrorism during a London press conference with Gordon Brown.ADNFCR-708-ID-19498168-ADNFCR
