The promoters for the Reading and Leeds festivals have released a statement warning against scam websites asking for fans' personal details.
A message at the official Reading and Leeds websites said organisers had become aware of some festivalgoers receiving emails which requested information such as their credit card details and photocopies of passports.
The scam sites in question - which include readingfestival2009.com, leedsmusicalfestival.com and leedsfestival.net - are fake, a statement added, and fans should ignore any requests.
'We would strongly advise you do not give this to them but contact your local Trading Standards Office instead to seek their advice,' a message posted on the official festival sites said.
'These websites are not authorised agent of Reading or Leeds festivals and have no connection to the events.'
Any music fans who believe they may have been the victim of identity theft are urged to visit Cifas.org.uk.
A list published at Readingfestival.com and Leedsfestival.com shows the full extent of the scam, with scores of websites purportedly involved.
