Ferdinand faces another month on sidelines

Rio Ferdinand will be out of England's World Cup qualifier against Croatia next month after it was revealed he will be sidelined for up to four weeks.

The Manchester United defender suffered a tear in a thigh muscle in training and has had to sit out all three of his side's Premier League matches so far this season.

He was originally expected to be missing for only two weeks but will now be unavailable to face Croatia at Wembley on September 9th.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hoped to have Ferdinand available to face Wigan at the weekend and Arsenal this coming Saturday but confirmed he will be out for longer than anticipated.

'Rio is going to be out for three to four weeks,' he said.

The prognosis suggests Ferdinand may be back in time for a tricky away fixture against in-form Tottenham Hotspur on September 12th and the Manchester derby against crosstown rivals City the following week.ADNFCR-708-ID-19324703-ADNFCR
