Jersey carer found guilty of child sex attacks

A former worker at a Jersey children's home has been found guilty of eight counts of indecent assault against three teenage girls during the 1970s.

Gordon Wateridge, who worked at the Haut de la Garenne care home, was also found guilty of assaulting a teenage boy.

During his trial at the Jersey royal court, the 78-year-old was described as a 'persistent sexual bully'.

He was cleared of another 12 counts of indecent assault on Thursday, with all the charges relating to the time he worked at the former children's home.

Following the verdict, the Wateridge was released on bail pending sentencing in September, with the judge warning he faces a jail term.

Wateridge is the first person to be charged in connection with historical abuse investigation at the children's home.ADNFCR-708-ID-19323071-ADNFCR
