Baby Peter's killers to appeal sentences

The three people found guilty of causing the death of Peter Connelly, otherwise known as Baby P, are to appeal against their sentences, it has emerged.

The 18-month-old boy dies in Haringey, north London, in August 2007 after sustaining more than 50 injuries, including a broken back.

His mother, Tracy Connelly, 28, her boyfriend, Steven Barker, 33, and his brother, Jason Owen, 37, were found guilty of causing or allowing Peter's death.

The trio were handed minimum sentences of five, 12 and three years respectively, earlier this year.

It emerged on Thursday lawyers for the three individuals have lodged papers with the court of appeal against their sentences.

A decision is expected on the appeals within the next three to four weeks, a spokesman for the court of appeal confirmed.

Barker is also appealing against the minimum sentence of ten years he received after being convicted of raping a two-year-old girl.

Connelly, Barker, and Owen were all jailed back in May. There names remained unknown until earlier this month when a court order demanding their anonymity expired.ADNFCR-708-ID-19323057-ADNFCR
