The research, published in the journal of Economics and Human Biology, found the most miserable men are more than an inch shorter than the average national height.
Researchers interviewed more than 450,000 adults with regard to how they viewed their life.
People in the experiment who were taller than the average were found to be more likely to see their life in a positive light and more likely to describe themselves as 'happy'.
Volunteers were asked to put themselves ion a 'life ladder', with the tenth rung representing the 'best possible life for you' and the first as the 'worst possible life for you'.
The results found women who placed themselves on the bottom were shorter than the average height by half an inch, and men who were above the average were found to be standing higher on the 'ladder' than men below the average.
The research declared the reason taller people viewed themselves as generally leading happier lives may be down to higher incomes and education.
