The Health Protection Agency (HPA) released its weekly update on the outbreak on Thursday showing there were 9,000 cases diagnosed
The week before there were 5,000 new cases and the week before 3,000, proving the return of the virus as children return to school and the summer ends.
In Scotland there was also a slight increase of new cases from 6,180 from 7,034.
The number of UK deaths from the H1N1 virus now stands at 78, with health officials warning more people will become infected through the winter.
