A factory in the West Midlands, either Castle Bromwich or Solihull, would be closed, but the firm said there would be no job losses in the short term, and another 800 jobs would be created at Halewood in Merseyside.
The motor giant, owned by Indian firm Tata, said an agreement had been reached with unions prior to the announcement.
The firm employs around 5,000 workers in Solihull, 2,000 in Castle Bromwich and 1,800 at Halewood.
