Jackson thought Thriller album 'sucked' initially

Jackson considered scrapping Thriller album over
The late Michael Jackson considered scrapping classic album Thriller after believing early mixes of the LP 'sucked', it has emerged.

Newly released tapes from the 1980s, transcripts of which have been published by the News of the World, revealed the self-styled King of Pop told friends he did not initially want to release the album until an encounter with some school children convinced him to complete work on Thriller.

'Thriller sounded so crap,' Jackson is quoted as saying.

'The mixes sucked. When we listened to the whole album, there were tears... I just cried like a baby. I stormed out of the room and said, 'We're not releasing this'.'

However, the singer returned to finish the album with producer Quincy Jones after visiting a nearby school playground in a break from recording.

'One of the maintenance crew in the studio had a bicycle and so I took it and rode up to the schoolyard,' he explained.

'I just watched the children play. When I came back I was ready to rule the world. I went into the studio and I turned them songs out.'

Thriller, Jackson's sixth studio album, has sold more than 110 million copies worldwide and won a record-breaking eight Grammys.ADNFCR-708-ID-19381997-ADNFCR
