Pete Doherty arrested by German police

Pete Doherty was arrested during his band's Germany tour for throwing a glass at a car's rear windscreen, it has emerged.

The Babyshambles frontman was held for three hours and charged with property damage after the incident in the early hours of the morning outside a bar in Berlin.

The 30-year-old faces a fine and damages for smashing the parked car's windscreen.

Doherty's arrest outside Trinkteufel, in the Kreuzberg area of Germany, comes after he was booed for singing a Nazi anthem.

The singer-songwriter apologised after inadvertently singing a version of the German national anthem with Nazi connotations at a Munich festival.

He was asked to leave the stage at the on3 music festival after singing the first verse of Das Deutschlandlied, which begins 'Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles'.

The stanza, which translates as 'Germany, Germany above all' was a regular fixture of Nazi gatherings and was abandoned after the second world war.

Doherty was roundly booed by the Munich crowd after singing the verse and started another song, completing five further tracks before being ushered from the stage by an organiser.

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood 'arrested'

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood has been arrested and questioned on suspicion of assault, police say.

It is believed the assault was in connection with a domestic incident.

Surrey police said Wood had been released on bail until a later date in January, pending further enquiries.

The star recently divorced wife of 24 years Jo Wood, on the grounds of his admitted adultery.

MySpace launches UK streaming service

MySpace has launched MySpace Music UK, its audio and video streaming service.

The product is aimed at allowing the music site to compete with other streaming sites such as Spotify and last.fm.

The service will provide free streaming access to the back catalogue of artists on major and independent labels.

The launch comes 15 months after the US version and marks another attempt to lure people back to the social-networking site that helped launched the career of Lily Allen and Kate Nash.

MySpace Music is co-owned by the music labels – EMI, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.

MySpace Music's president, Courtney Holt, has said there will be millions of tracks available on the streaming service, as well as tens of thousands of music videos.

Users will not have to create a MySpace account to listen to the music but if they wish to create playlists or share content they will need to create one.

Like other streaming sites, adverts will appear on the screen while being used, but will not interrupt the music.

Expressing his home for the service, Mr Holt said: Holt has high hopes for MySpace Music in the UK, adding: 'MySpace Music is the number one music site in America and since we have launched in Australia and New Zealand we have seen double the engagement than pre, so we believe this is going to be great for MySpace in the UK.'

Beyonce and Swift lead Grammy nominations

It is set to be a battle of the ladies after nominations for the 52nd annual Grammy awards were announced last night.

Leading the pack is Beyonce, who received ten nods in the R'n'B, pop and general fields. She has enjoyed massive success with her latest solo album 'I am…Sasha Fierce', with hits including 'Single Ladies (put a ring on it)' and 'Halo'.

Close behind her is country-pop sensation Taylor Swift with eight nominations. The 19-year-old's album 'Fearless' is the best-selling album of 2009 in the US, selling more than 4.5 million copies. Just last month she won five awards at the American Music Awards, including artist of the year.

A stunned Swift said: 'I honestly never would have predicted this, eight nominations – I'm ecstatic, and blown away and so so thankful.'

The pair will both go head-to-head in the top categories including record and song of the year, album of the year and best female pop vocal.

But the duo face competition from eccentric performer Lady Gaga who received five nominations. Her album 'The Fame' earned her an album of the year nomination and her track 'Poker Face' is in the running for record and song of the year.

Notably, she did not receive a nomination for best new artist.

The Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell and Kanye West received six nods each, while Jay-Z and David Guetta got five.

Other performers up for awards are Keri Hilson and the Ting Tings for best new artist, Kings of Leon for record and song of the year and a best rock album of the year for U2's 'No Line on the Horizon.'

CEO of The Recording Academy, Neil Portnow said: 'The nominations this year truly reflect the talented community of music makers who represent some of the highest levels of excellence in their representative fields.'

The Grammys will be presented on January 31st in Los Angeles.

U2 'humbled' to headline Glastonbury Festival

Multiple Grammy winners U2 are 'delighted and humbled' to be one of the headliners for next year's Glastonbury, says frontman Bono.

The Irish band will headline the Somerset festival on Friday June 25th 2010, with the iconic event celebrating its 40th anniversary.

While rock legend David Bowie has ruled himself out of taking to the Pyramid Stage, British trio Muse have said it is likely they will appear.

Speaking at the launch of an anti-Aids/HIV campaign in London on Monday, U2 lead singer Bono said of the band's headlining slot: 'Everyone in the band is very excited about it.'

He added: 'We'll certainly be well-rehearsed, we'll be coming straight from the tour.'

U2's Glastonbury shows comes amid a North American leg of their 360 Degrees world tour next year and the quartet will make a flying visit to the UK to perform at Worthy Farm in Pilton.

Bono's comments on Monday came as he launched the 'Lace Up. Save Lives' campaign, an initiative between Nike and the (RED) brand created by the rock singer.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is also backing the campaign, which encourages people to buy red boot laces to help funding for Aids medication and education efforts in Africa.

Lloyd Daniels misses X Factor semis

Lloyd Daniels is the latest act to be voted out of The X Factor, after receiving the least number of public votes.

Sunday night's result means Stacey Solomon, Joe McElderry, Danyl Johnson and Olly Murs will all compete in next week's semi-final.

Lloyd, who was in Cheryl Cole's category, said to his mentor: 'I can't thank you enough'.

Unfortunately for the Welsh singer his performances of I'm Still Standing and A Million Love Songs last night weren't enough to keep him in the ITV1 competition.

The result means Simon Cowell will go into the semi-final with two acts in his over-25's category, Olly and Danyl.

Robbie Williams 'proposes' to girlfriend on air

Singer Robbie Williams has reportedly proposed to his girlfriend Ayda Field live on an Australian radio show.

The former Take That star was being interviewed on Sydney radio station 2DayFM, with US actress Field also in the studio, when show host Jackie Henderson told Williams the Australian city had a reputation for celebrity proposals.

The Bodies singer then asked Field: 'Is there anyone you want to get married to? Will you marry me?'

The 30-year-old actress answered: 'Yes, I'll marry you.'

Williams borrowed Henderson's 'froggy ring' and told his girlfriend of two years: 'Ayda Field, I love you so much. Do you mind being my betrothed 'til the end of time?'

Field laughed before replying: 'I would love to be your betrothed 'til the end of time. Thank you for my froggy ring.'

It is believed the on-air proposal may not have been entirely genuine after a post on Twitter earlier this week by the presenters of the Kyle and Jackie O show said Williams had 'a little surprise up his sleeve' for Field.

Williams' spokesman has since said the offer of marriage was merely a bit of fun, telling the Daily Mail: 'He did say it, but he did it in a jocular manner. They are not engaged.'

Rihanna says naked pictures were 'hot'

Singer Rihanna has said the naked photographs of her leaked earlier this year were both 'hot' and the 'worst thing that could possibly ever happen'.

Seven leaked photos appeared online earlier this year, allegedly showing the Umbrella singer, 21, in a series of raunchy poses, though her face was only clearly visible in two, in which she was fully-clothed.

Speaking to US radio station Hot 97, Rihanna confirmed the pictures had originally been taken for an ex-boyfriend and their eventual publication online in May was 'humiliating'.

'I just felt like my whole privacy was taken before that and then, when that came out, I thought, 'oh great, so now there's nothing they don't know about me and my private life',' the Russian Roulette star said.

'It was humiliating and it was embarrassing - especially my mom having to see that. It was two days before Mother's Day, so I was nervous.

'I sent her flowers first before I called and then she texted me - when the world is against me she's always there supporting.'

However, Rihanna - real name Robyn Fenty - defended the original taking of the photographs, describing them as 'hot'.

'If you don't send your boyfriend naked pictures, then I feel bad for him,' she added.

The leak of the photographs came after Rihanna's February assault by then boyfriend Chris Brown, with the latter sentenced to five years' probation for the attack in August.

McCartney: Stage fright almost ended career

Sir Paul McCartney has joked that he considered quitting the Beatles in their early career due to stage fright.

Speaking at the launch of his new DVD Good Evening New York City, the 67-year-old revealed he experienced onstage nerves even after the Fab Four's years of gigging in Hamburg.

'They used to have a thing called the NME Poll Winners Party, where the owner of the NME would get us, the Stones, all the top acts, to come and perform for nothing! This was a couple of years into the Beatles' career,' he explained.

'So I remember being on the steps of Wembley Town Hall, literally getting ill with nerves, and thinking, 'I've got to give this business up, this is no good'. It was quite nerve-wracking.'

Sir Paul added: 'I'm not so bad now. I know I've got a really good band, which helps. It's nice at the end of the evening to take a bow and there's just [five] of us.

'I used to feel sorry for Elvis [Presley] in Vegas 'cause he used to have 50 people on stage with him and it didn't sound any better than his early records, where there were three people.'

The former Beatle embarks on his first European tour for five years in December, opening in his old stomping ground of Hamburg on December 2nd before a December 22nd climax at London's O2 Arena.

Sir Paul told the London audience at the DVD launch on Wednesday that live performances allowed him to 'revisit' his former bandmates and his late wife Linda.

'If I'm doing songs by Tte Beatles, I obviously remember the sessions when we recorded,' he commented.

'There's a song I do called Here Today which is specifically written for John, and that sometimes catches me out.'

He continued: 'It catches me out in this film version, where I realise I'm telling this man that I love him, and it's like, 'Oh my god', like I'm publicly declaring it in front of all these people I don't know! It's like, 'What am I doing?' It's a good thing to do, though.'

Britney Spears 'upset' at Oz mime jibes

Britney Spears' Australian leg of her Circus tour is in danger of being overshadowed by a row over her lip-synching.

The 27-year-old was reportedly left 'extremely upset' after reports concertgoers walked out three songs into her set in Perth.

Tour promoter Paul Dainty told the Australian that Circus was 'an incredible spectacle', acknowledging that Spears did not always sing live.

But he told the paper the claim, from local journalist Rebekah Devlin, that people walked out because she was not singing live was the 'biggest lie I've ever heard'.

'We can take heat if there's something wrong and people can review shows badly - that's something you have to live with. But to say people stormed out of the show was an absolute fabrication,' Dainty said.

This week Devlin stuck to her story, saying: 'Don't call me a liar.

'I personally spoke with 25 people who left, some as early as the third song, and while I was speaking to disgruntled fans, more and more people walked past.'

Writing on Spears' official Twitter page her manager Adam Leber said: 'Its unfortunate that one journalist in Perth didn't enjoy the show last night. Fortunately the other 18,272 fans in attendance did.'

The row was initially sparked after New South Wales minister Virginia Judge said tickets for the Spears concert should come with a disclaimer over whether she sang live.

In further comment, singer John Mayer wrote on his Twitter page: 'If you're shocked that Britney was lip-syncing [sic] at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you.'

Lucie Jones voted out in X Factor shock

Welsh singer Lucie Jones has become the latest act to leave the X Factor after losing out in the public vote to Irish twins John and Edward.

Jones and the sibling singers were left in the bottom two on Sunday evening's results show, on which Leona Lewis and the Black Eyed Peas performed.

Though Jones out-sang John and Edward with her rendition of One Moment in Time, the voting went to deadlock after Simon Cowell opted to allow the public to have the final decision.

Having accrued less votes than the twins, Lucie became the latest singer to leave the competition, leaving her mentor Dannii Minogue furious.

In a veiled jibe at John and Edward, Minogue said she wished luck to 'all the good singers in this competition.

Everybody In Love with JLS

Former X Factor boyband JLS have gone straight in at number one for the second time in a year with their second single Everybody In Love.

Following up the phenomenal success they enjoyed with debut single Beat Again, JLS - who shot to fame on the hit reality TV show last year but finished second behind fellow chart act Alexandra Burke - sold more than 100,000 copies of their new single in the first seven days on release.

JLS are only the fourth act - in addition to Alexandra, X Factor judge Cheryl Cole and rap star Dizzee Rascal - to sell in six figures in their first week in the charts, although the boyband have now done so twice with their first two singles.

Band member Oritsé Williams said: 'I can't believe we have another number one single.

'The best thing is that it feels like people really enjoy our music. To have our first two singles go to number one is more than we ever expected.'

The band's eponymously titled album is released on Monday.

In the UK albums chart, Cheryl Cole's 3 Words stays at number one for a second week ahead of American rockers Bon Jovi, who enter at number two with new album The Circle.

Other new entries in the top ten are the Foo Fighters' Greatest Hits, at number four, and Welsh songstress Katherine Jenkins' The Ultimate Collection at number nine.

Beyonce hat-trick at MTV Europe Music Awards

Former Destiny's Child singer Beyonce Knowles was the big winner at Thursday's MTV Europe Music awards (EMAs), with three prizes.

Knowles claimed the best female prize as well as the best song award for Halo and the best video gong for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).

The singer and actress dedicated the latter to rapper husband Jay-Z, saying: 'There's only one person I want to thank and that is Jay for putting a ring on it.'

The Berlin ceremony was hosted by Katy Perry for the second consecutive year.

The Hot N Cold star performed a medley of the five best song nominees and managed to don seven different outfits during the show - including a costume adorned in West Ham United badges in tribute to her boyfriend Russell Brand.

The British actor later posted a joyous tweet about Perry's costume on his Twitter page, writing: 'Wow. Now MY GIRLFRIEND has worn a West Ham basque while hosting the EMAs. What a day! I might revive Gandhi and ask if he wants to be mates.

'Yes I will be taking her to a game - West Ham Vs Everton. And, before it begins, no I won't be taking her up the Arsenal.'

He added: 'I'm off to meditate now, though unless enlightenment includes Richard Pryor and Bobby Moore caressing me to orgasm how can this be improved?'

Best live act winners U2 performed a free show at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, though some fans complained about the irony of a two-metre high security barrier being erected around the concert site.

The best urban prize was claimed by Jay-Z, with fellow rap star Eminem beating the likes of Mika and Robbie Williams to the best male award.

UK singer Pixie Lott won the inaugural MTV push artist gong while German band Tokio Hotel were the surprise winners of the best group award, beating Green Day, Jonas Brothers, Black Eyed Peas and Kings of Leon.

Public outcry over U2 Berlin Wall concert

A U2 gig to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall has sparked local anger after a barrier was erected around the concert site.

The Irish band's performance at the Brandenburg Gate, part of Thursday evening's MTV Europe Music awards (EMAs), was attended by some 10,000 people who won free tickets online.

But after organisers installed a two-metre wall around the venue to block the view for those without tickets, Berlin locals and tourists alike have criticised the decision to build a barrier around a show commemorating the fall of an iconic wall.

'It's a shame that a barrier has been set up,' local politician Frank Henkel was quoted by the BBC as saying.

'It's stopping many Berliners from hearing the concert.'

Canadian fan Louis-Pierre Boily, who had travelled to Berlin despite missing out on tickets, added: 'It's completely ridiculous that they are blocking the view.

'I thought it's a free show, but MTV probably wants people to watch it on TV to get their ratings up.'

Representatives for both U2 and MTV have not yet issued any comment about the barrier.

Thursday's EMAs ceremony was hosted by Katy Perry.

No Doubt sue Band Hero over in-game characters

US band No Doubt are suing the creators of the Guitar Hero franchise over the use of their likenesses in the Band Hero spin-off.

In a suit filed in Los Angeles superior court on Wednesday, the Don't Speak act claimed game developers Activision did not honour an agreement originally signed with the band.

No Doubt's legal action follows recent threats of legal action from Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love over the use of the late Nirvana star's likeness in Guitar Hero 5.

In a statement to clarify their disapproval, No Doubt said in a statement: '[The band] agreed to place avatars containing their name and likeness performing three No Doubt songs in the upcoming Band Hero.'

Since the game's release on Tuesday, it has been noted that the band's character likenesses can be used to sing and perform more than 60 songs 'which are not appropriate for No Doubt and have not been and would not have been chosen by No Doubt for recordings or public performances'.

Court documents revealed the Ex-Girlfriend group were especially unhappy that the avatar representing lead singer Gwen Stefani could be used to sing in a male voice on songs such as Marvin Gaye's I Heard It Through the Grapevine and the Rolling Stones' Honky Tonk Woman.

'While No Doubt are avid fans of the Rolling Stones and even have performed in concerts with the Rolling Stones, the Character Manipulation Feature results in an unauthorised performance by the Gwen Stefani avatar in a male voice choir boasting about having sex with prostitutes.'

The ska-pop band are now requesting an injunction preventing the unauthorised usage of their likenesses in the game, as well as 'an undetermined amount of damages'.

Frankmusik launches new talent search

Electropop artist Frankmusik has begun a new nationwide search to uncover the UK's best unsigned musical talent.

The Croydon-based songwriter and producer, whose debut album Complete Me charted at number 13 earlier this year, will lead the Kit Kat Battle of the Bands tour to find the most promising unsigned acts in the country.

Frankmusik will tour six student unions as part of the talent search, with entrants given the chance to win £3,000, a rehearsal master class and remix from Frankmusik and online promotion via his MySpace.

'What's brilliant about this talent search is that we're calling for all guitar bands, groups or solo artists to take part,' Frankmusik commented.

'It doesn't matter whether you like indie music, electropop or pure rock – talent is talent and we're going to find the next big thing!'

Unsigned student acts will be invited to perform live on stage at six regional heats where they'll battle it out in front of their student peers and fight for votes, with the winner in each regional heat then brought to London for the grand finale, to be judged by Frankmusik.

Ian Brown arrested after 'assaulting wife'

Singer Ian Brown has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his wife, it has been reported.

The former Stone Roses frontman was arrested at the couple's West Kensington home on Monday November 2nd after neighbours called police to report a disturbance.

Reports claim Brown's wife Fabiola Quiroz, 37, told officers her 46-year-old husband had attacked her.

The F.E.A.R. singer was arrested on suspicion of assault at his London address and taken into custody, before being bailed until December.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: 'A 37-year-old woman made an allegation of domestic assault and a 46-year-old man was arrested at the address and taken to a police station.'

Brown and Quiroz, who married in 1999, have a nine-year-old son named Emilio.

Jonathan Ross awarded music industry prize

TV and radio host Jonathan Ross has been presented with the 2009 Music Industry Trust's award (MITs) for 'services to music broadcasting'.

The Radio 2 presenter was handed the award by singer George Michael at a central London charity dinner on Monday night, with Ross expressing his gratitude for the prize.

'I'm not fully confident I deserve this award because this honour is really just being given the chance to share something I'm passionate about, which is of course music,' the 48-year-old remarked. 'I'm incredibly fortunate.'

Video messages from a number of celebrities were shown in tribute to Ross at the event, with congratulations from the likes of U2, Cheryl Cole, Harry Hill, Vivienne Westwood and Will Smith, who commented: 'You are important to me and to my life.'

MIT awards organisers said Ross had been honoured for providing exposure to new artists since his first television show The Last Resort in the 1980s.

'For over two decades Jonathan Ross has been an important part of the UK music landscape and has provided valuable support to artists in challenging times,' said the awards committee's chairman David Munns.

'His passion for music, enthusiasm for discovering and encouraging musicians and the importance of his two shows for artist development, makes Jonathan Ross a worthy recipient of the 2009 MITs award.'

Previous recipients include Sir George Martin, Sir Elton John, Peter Gabriel and Kylie Minogue.

Rihanna breaks silence about Chris Brown attack

Grammy-winning singer Rihanna has spoken publicly for the first time about the night she was assaulted by former boyfriend Chris Brown.

Speaking to Good Morning America host Diane Sawyer, in an interview that will be aired on Thursday and Friday this week, the Umbrella singer describes fellow pop singer Brown as 'my first big love'.

In August Brown was sentenced to five years' probation, six months of community service and one year of domestic violence counselling, having pleaded guilty to felony assault over the February incident.

Police documents leaked after the attack, which occurred on the night of the Grammy awards, alleged that after Rihanna read out a text message from another woman on Brown's mobile phone, he punched and bit her and deliberately banged her head against the car window.

A photograph later leaked showed the extent of Rihanna's injuries after the incident, with the Barbadian singer's face severely bruised and battered.

In her first public comments since the attack, Rihanna told Sawyer in this week's interview: 'This happened to me... it can happen to anyone.'

The interview coincides with the release of her new single Russian Roulette, ahead of her new album Rated R's November 23rd release.

Rachel Adedeji is latest to leave X Factor

Rachel Adedeji has become the fourth act voted off the live stage of ITV1's The X Factor.

After performances from rock legends Bon Jovi and former X Factor runners up JLS, show host Dermot O'Leary announced this week's results, with Lloyd Daniels and Adedeji named in the bottom two.

Adedeji performed first, singing a version of Oasis' Stop Crying Your Heart Out while Daniels, suffering a bad throat, performed You Are So Beautiful.

Judges Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole saved their own acts, meaning head judge Simon Cowell had the casting vote but declined to make the decision, sending the vote to deadlock.

With the public's votes coming back into play, Adedeji became the fourth act to leave the series, having received the fewest votes.

'Thank you to everyone who has supported me,' she said tearfully after the result was announced. 'It's been amazing, I got to meet so many amazing people and great judges. I'm so grateful. Thank you.'

Her mentor Minogue added: 'Everyone adored Rachel. I don't know where it went wrong. I hope she does what JLS did last year and goes on.'
