Williams to run KERS in 2010

Williams will continue development of their KERS system
Williams’ technical director Sam Michael has confirmed that the team will continue to develop a KERS system in time for the beginning of next season.

The Formula One Teams’ Association (FOTA) members all agreed to ditch the technology as of next season as they deemed the system to be too expensive.

But, the voluntary deal is now under threat, as Williams have vowed to continue development of their KERS system with the view of introducing onto the FW32 at the opening race of the 2010 seaso in Bahrain.

“We fully support the use of KERS and always have done,” said Michael.

“Given the environmental and sustainability pressures that F1 is going to face in the future, KERS is a positive step for the sport.

“It’s in next year’s regulations, so we’re continuing developing our system with a view to using it on next year’s FW32.”

Williams has only just been allowed back in to FOTA after being suspended for breaking ranks with the other members and entering the 2010 world championship before the FIA’s deadline.

The member teams, with the exception of Williams and Force India all agreed to stand firm against the FIA’s attempt to push through new regulations without consulting the current F1 teams.

Michael also stated that the Grove-based team hasn’t made a decision in regards to its engine supplier for the 2010 season but that he hopes to be able to make an official announcement soon.ADNFCR-708-ID-19372685-ADNFCR
