The London-born singer, who has previously had hits as a writer and producer - including summer smash Never Leave You by Tinchy Stryder - achieved his first number one as an artist after outselling last week's top single Pixie Lott's Boys & Girls, which dropped to number six.
The only other new entry in the top ten is Madonna's new single Celebration, which debuts at number three.
It is good news for Taio Cruz, whose eagerly awaited second album Rokstarr is released next month (October 12th).
Meanwhile in the album chart, Muse's new release The Resistance has gone straight in at number one.
The Devon trio fought off stiff competition from several other new entries this week, including Peter Andre's new album Revelation which went in at number three.
Jay-Z's latest release The Blueprint 3 debuted at number four, with David Gray (Draw The Line) at number five, Pixie Lott's debut album (Turn It Up) at number six and Mark Knopfler (Get Lucky) at number nine.
Last week's number one, Vera Lynn's collection We'll Meet Again, drops one place to number two.
