Chelsea have been effectively banned from signing any new players until January 2011 in a landmark Fifa ruling.
The FA Cup holders have been told they cannot register any new players for domestic or international competitions for the next two transfer windows.
The Fifa decision, made by its dispute resolution chamber, comes after French club Lens complained over Chelsea's acquisition of youth prospect Gael Kakuta.
