Burley calls for "passion and commitment"

Scotland manager George Burley has called on his players to repeat Saturday's second half display against Holland tonight.

Scotland were lacklustre in the first half against Macedonia, but produced an improved performance after the break to win 2-0.

That leaves the Scots needing to beat the Dutch to give them a realistic chance of achieving a playoff place, and despite defending their first half display Burley believes they need to repeat Saturday's second-half performance to compete.

Burley said: 'I didn't think we played that badly on Saturday in the first half.

'Macedonia were recently 2-0 up against Spain at half-time, so I don't think going in goalless at the break is too bad.

'However, to beat Holland, we are going to have to battle like we did on Saturday.

'We need to play to the best of our ability and show total passion and commitment.'

The Scotland boss also wants his squad to concentrate on their own performances, rather than worrying about what side Holland coach Bert van Marwijk might put out.

Burley said: 'Whether we are underdogs or favourites, it is always up to us to perform and do what we are good at.

'We need to be fully concentrated. There is nothing better than playing for Scotland at Hampden Park against a big team.'

A 4-0 defeat to Norway in August made it difficult for Scotland to reach the playoffs, but after beating Macedonia Burley wants his players to seize their second chance.

Burley said: 'Before the Macedonia game, we were written off by everyone.

'Now we have beaten Macedonia, our fate is in our hands to reach the playoffs and we need to take that chance.'
