The Saracens skipper was injured in his side's Guinness Premiership victory over Harlequins on Saturday, leading to fears he could miss out on the matches against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand in November.
However, after undergoing a scan earlier today Borthwick was told he should be fine for the international fixtures although he is still a major doubt for his club's domestic fixture against Gloucester at Vicarage Road this Sunday.
'The second row underwent a scan earlier today which revealed the sprain,' an RFU statement confirmed.
'The Saracens and England medical teams consider that the injury will not prevent Steve from being part of the Investec Challenge internationals although it was too early to say whether he will be available for Saracens' Guinness Premiership round four clash against Gloucester at Vicarage Road on Sunday.'
Despite the positive news on Borthwick's injury, England centre Jordan Turner-Hall is still facing an anxious wait of his own.
The Quins star, who picked up a left shoulder injury in the same game, will have his fitness assessed by the Harlequins and England medical teams this week before a decision is made on his rehabilitation.
