Axeman petrol bomb attack at German school

Ten students have been injured after a teenager attacked his former school with petrol bombs and an axe in Ansbach, south-east Germany.

The unnamed 19-year-old man is in custody after being arrested, while none of the hurt students are thought to have life-threatening injuries.

According to reports he was shot in the stomach by police marksmen.

The Carolinum secondary school in the Franken region of Bavaria, which has more than 600 pupils, was evacuated following the incident earlier this morning.

'The attacker has been arrested, is injured and is on the way to hospital,' Peter Grimm, spokesman for Nuremburg police, told German broadcasters.

The whole school has been cleared. There is no sign of a second attacker.'

In March this year 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer opened fire on his former school in Winnenden, south-west Germany, killing 15 people before turning the gun on himself.
