Iran ready to return to nuclear table

By inthenews.co.uk staff.

Iran said on Tuesday it was ready to return to the negotiating table with world powers over its divisive nuclear programme.

Britain, China, France, Russia and the US, the permanent members of the United Nations security council, as well as Germany, are meeting in Frankfurt tomorrow to be updated on Iran's nuclear package.

Tehran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili said that Iran was now ready to cooperate to 'remove common concerns in the international arena'.

He told reporters in Iran: 'Iran has prepared an updated nuclear proposal and is ready to resume negotiations with world powers.'

Barack Obama has given Iran until late September to take up an offer from the six powers or face tougher sanctions.

World powers suspect Iran of developing nuclear bomb technology, but Tehran insists it is only interested in civilian energy.

A potential complication to the issue is the resumption of Middle East peace talks, which reportedly relies on the suspension of Iran's nuclear programme.

Both issues are expected to dominate proceedings when the 64th session of the UN general assembly opens on September 15th.
