Queues built up around the forecourt as word spread in Milton, near Cambridge.
But staff only realised the error after six days when they heard about it on the local radio after a customer phoned in to alert listeners to the bargain price.
'This was a technical fault at the pump and an engineer has now rectified the problem,' a Tesco spokesman told the BBC.
'Although we always aim to keep prices down at the pumps, unfortunately, we could not maintain this price indefinitely.'
Customers will now have to pay the normal price of 107p per litre, which means the average 50-litre tank will cost £54 to fill, instead of £20.
