United go top as Chelsea lose at Wigan

Petr Cech
Chelsea were knocked off the top of the league after losing their first game of the season 3-1 at Wigan.

Titus Bramble headed Roberto Martinez’s men into the lead before poor defending allowed Didier Drogba to equalise with his 100th goal for Chelsea.

However Hugo Rodallega restored Wigan’s lead from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Petr Cech - who was shown the red card – and Paul Scharner headed in late on to secure a historic win at the DW Stadium.

With Chelsea losing Manchester United went to the top of the league with a 2-0 victory at Stoke.

Tony Pulis’ team looked comfortable in the first-half, but the game swung United’s way when Ryan Giggs replaced Nani and set up goals for Dimitar Berbatov and John O’Shea.ADNFCR-708-ID-19382274-ADNFCR
