Fans of the late Thriller star queued for up to three days in Los Angeles to acquire on of the 3,000 tickets available for the Los Angeles screenings of the film.
Directed by High School Musical helmer Kenny Ortega, This Is It is based on more than 100 hours of footage from the rehearsals held for Jackson's planned 50 dates at the O2 Arena in London.
The film will go on general release in cinemas on October 28th for a two-week run, with tickets on sale now.
The rush for tickets in Los Angeles came ahead of one of 15 simultaneous global premieres of the documentary on October 27th and 28th.
The Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 will host a screening at 18:00 local time with a simultaneous British debut at the Odeon Leicester Square in London at 01:00 UK time.
