With the match and scoreline evenly poised, Edwards finished exquisitely following an Andrew Keogh pass to win the game for the newly promoted side.
It was no less than the home side deserved as they produced an industrious performance in front of their fans. They dominated from the off pressurising Fulham, not allowing the visitors any space in midfield resulting in them taking the lead in the eighteenth minute.
A throw in was flicked on right onto the head of Kevin Doyle who finished with ease to register his first goal for the club. The goal seemed to spur the home side on as they continued their impressive pressing tactics forcing Fulham to continually give away possession.
Wolves thought they added to their lead on the stroke of half time but a good finish by Keogh was ruled out correctly for offside.
They needn’t have worried however as an early goal in the second half ultimately won the game and all three points.
David Edwards goal came after more sloppy play from Fulham who were deservedly punished for their ineptitude. Five minutes later Wolves hit the frame of the goal following a deflection off Fulham defender Aaron Hughes which was tipped onto the bar by goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.
With the game heading for a comprehensive conclusion Fulham were handed a lifeline just after the hour mark. On loan defender Michael Mancienne inadvisably tugged on Bobby Zamora’s shirt to gift an undeserving Fulham side a penalty and a way back into the match.
Danny Murphy sent the keeper the wrong way to bring Fulham back into the game. It was a lifeline that Fulham looked to capitalise on as they surged forward. Andrew Johnson found himself one on one but was denied by Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey. The resulting corner ended with a massive scramble in the Wolves area before it was eventually cleared.
The pressure continued before the final whistle was blown as Fulham attempted to get an equalizer they barley deserved but Wolves held on for all three points.
