Matthew Swift, 18, and Ross McKnight, 16, were accused of planning to bomb Audenshaw High School on the tenth anniversary of the US school shooting.
However, a jury at Manchester crown court took just 20 minutes to clear the boys of all charges on Wednesday.
The pair had always denied the charges of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause explosions between November 2007 and March this year
During their trial the prosecution alleged the boys had planned their attack in diaries, code-naming the plot 'Project Rainbow', and experimenting with explosives.
Their defence team, however, said it was simply two boys messing about and the plot was pure fantasy.
