Yesterday in a statement from the Enstone-based squad, it was announced that team boss Briatore and technical director Pat Symonds have quite the team over the race-fixing allegations surrounding last year’s Singapore grand prix.
The statement said that neither Briatore or Symonds were going to contest the charges at Monday’s World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) hearing.
Over the Italian grand prix weekend, Briatore threatened to launch criminal legal proceedings against Piquet Junior and his father Piquet Senior, accusing the pair of making false allegations and of blackmail.
And, speaking from Brazil, three-time world champion Piquet Senior, who races with the Benetton team in the early 90s under the wing of Briatore, said he will fight to the end.
'And about what does Briatore actually want to complain? About the truth?' Piquet said in Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.
'After a certain point people like Flavio get so much power that they believe they can walk on water.
'Despite the clear evidence he actually assumed nothing could happen to him.'
'All I said was that an intelligent driver like Alonso would ask questions if his team told him to come in to pit after 12 laps from 15th on the grid.
'As a driver I would have suspected something, so I can imagine only with difficulty that Fernando didn't know anything.'
