Mother jailed for 33 years for stabbing daughters to death

A mother has been told she must spend at least 33 years in prison after being found guilty of stabbing her daughter to death.

Rekha Kumari-Baker, 41, attacked the girls in a 'frenzied' attack with a kitchen knife at her home in Cambridgeshire in 2007.

Davina Baker, 16 and Jasmine Baker, 13, were both killed in the attack, with the former receiving 39 stab wounds.

It took at jury at Cambridge crown court just 30 minutes to reach a verdict of guilty on both counts of murder on Monday.

During the trial, the jury were told that after killing her children she got dressed and twice went out in her car before ringing a friend to say: 'I have done something terrible'.

DI Jim McCrorie, from Cambridgeshire police, earlier described the case as the most upsetting and sickening he'd ever experienced.

Kumari-Baker was told by the sentencing judge she would not be considered for parole until 2040 – when she will be 72-years-old.
