Mallya: Fisi departure won't affect our performance

By Adam Leveridge

Force India team owner Vijay Mallya is adamant that Giancarlo Fisichella’s departure will not impact on the team’s performance.

After securing Force India’s first ever points last weekend at Spa with a second place finish, it was announced that Fisichella will race for Ferrari from the Italian grand prix onwards, taking over from Luca Badoer who failed to perform during his two races with the team in Valencia and Belgium.

While Mallya admits that Fisichella’s move is a significant loss to Force India, he is confident the team’s performance will not dwindle and that they will continue to stride forward with development.

'For Force India, this sport is a team effort and removing one part, even a major one, will not significantly affect our performance,' said Mallya.

'The competitiveness of the team seen in Belgium was a result of hard work in the factory and wind tunnel and we have further developments coming for the final races, so we are confident this momentum can be sustained. We are now looking forward to a strong finish to the season.'

Force India are unwilling to comment on who will replace Fisichella but stated that they will announce their decision in the next few days.
