The festival's artistic director Sandra Hebron confirmed the roster for the 2009 event at a press launch in London's West End, with films by Steven Soderbergh, the Coen brothers and Ang Lee among a varied and exciting line-up.
The opening night film for the festival, Wes Anderson's adaptation of Fantastic Mr Fox, was revealed last month while Sam Taylor-Wood's John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy will close the 2009 festival on October 29th.
The 53rd festival will host 15 world premieres, 146 UK premieres and 23 European premieres, as well as a host of short films and animations, and special talks from the likes of Oscar nominee Julianne Moore, Wallace & Gromit creator Nick Park and controversial director Gaspar Noé.
Last year's event hosted Oscar nominees Slumdog Millionaire, Frost/Nixon and The Wrestler and the 2009 festival is likely to include a number of potential awards favourites, including John Hillcoat's adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road, Jane Campion's Bright Star and Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock.
The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival takes place from October 14th until October 29th.
