Kings vying with GaGa for MTV Europe Music awards

US rock band Kings of Leon and popstar Lady GaGa are the frontrunners for this year's MTV Europe Music awards, with five nominations each.

The Use Somebody band and Poker Face singer will compete in three of the major categories at the November ceremony, with nominations for best song, best live act and best world stage performance.

Kings of Leon are also nominated for the best group and best rock awards while Lady GaGa is named in the best new act and best female categories.

Beyonce has four nominations - including for best video for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) - while Green Day and Eminem have three nominations each.

British singer Robbie Williams, who only recently previewed his comeback single Bodies, is a surprise nominee for the best male award while former X Factor winner Leona Lewis is the sole UK nominee in the best female category.

The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony in Berlin on November 5th, with 11 of the 13 categories selected through online voting.

MTV's senior vice president Bruce Gillmer said the show at Berlin's O2 World would feature 'exceptional live performances by some of the biggest and most exciting musical acts in the world'.
