FTSE 100 ends week up

The FTSE 100 ended the day up 0.17 per cent, or 8.94 points, to 5,172.89 on Friday.

Over the week the index maintain itself over 5,000 and rose 3.27 per cent.

Kingfisher led the gains up 4.29 per cent, while Next gained 2.92 per cent as an element of optimism returned to retail.

Property stocks saw positive movement with British Land rising 3.33 per cent and Hammerson gained 2.57 per cent.

Autonomy Corporation gained 2.88 per cent.

Balfour Beatty was down 5.82 per cent, Pennon Group fell 5.46 per cent and Tullow Oil dropped 5.30 per cent.

In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.18 per cent at 12:02 EDT (17:02 BST) to 9,801.46.

Anthony Grech, market strategist at IG Index, said: 'It's been a relatively quiet session to finish the week with limited fundamental data released.

'The budget deficit number this morning provided no real impetus for equities and Wall Street has seen trade get underway in a relatively tame manner too.'
