Broad and Denly both out of third ODI

Stuart Broad will be rested for the third one-day international against Australia at the Rose Bowl, while Joe Denly has still not recovered from a knee injury.

All-rounder Broad sustained a neck strain in the first one-day match at the Oval, which forced him to miss the next game at Lord's. The England management have since decided to give him a longer period of rest ahead of a packed autumn and winter schedule.

Broad, 23, was a key figure for England as they regained the Ashes last month and will most likely see Tim Bresnan take over his duties in the crucial third match in the NatWest one-day series.

Promising Kent opening batsman Denly has had a frustrating few weeks after top-scoring on debut for England in their narrow win against Ireland.

Since then, he was dismissed for a golden duck in the first abandoned Twenty20 against the Aussies and then crocked by Owais Shah while playing football in a training session.

The knee injury he sustained in the collision ruled the 23-year-old out of the first two ODIs and he will now miss the third.

England trail 2-0 in the series after throwing away winning positions at the Oval and Lord's and will hope to put that right starting tomorrow in Southampton.
