The full-back, who was forced off the field on the hour mark as the Exiles romped to a 40-10 victory, is a major doubt for England's autumn internationals against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand.
And the RFU have now confirmed that Armitage will have a scan on the suspected dislocation before an exact recovery period will be announced.
'Delon Armitage will have a scan and the results will be available [soon],' the RFU said.
'Delon will then see a specialist to review the results of the scan. Once that consultation has taken place a further announcement will be made.'
Armitage has become a key component of Martin Johnson's England side since making his debut in the autumn internationals less than a year ago.
His absence would leave a major hole in the backs, with no other experienced candidates available to take the number 15 shirt.
Gloucester's Olly Morgan looks to be next in line, although one of two Sale stars - youngster Ben Foden or experienced winger Mark Cueto - could step in at full-back.
