Saints duo delighted by England call-ups

Northampton Saints backs Shane Geraghty and Ben Foden have spoken of their delight at achieving England call-ups for the autumn internationals.

Geraghty, who is arguably the form half-back in the Guinness Premiership this season, has been rewarded for his promising displays for Saints with a place in the elite squad.

And he is joined by versatile starlet Foden, who is capable of playing scrum-half or full-back and is hoping to secure a spot in the starting XV with first-choice number 15 Delon Armitage ruled out through injury.

'I'm over the moon and happy to be back in the mix,' said Foden.

'I got a taste of it last year and wanted more and hopefully I can get a starting spot for England.

'The England coaches always phone after a game and give us their feedback as to what I can improve on, especially the basic skills of playing full back.

'You are always disappointed to be involved and then demoted the next season. But you've got to keep your sprits up, play well for your club and get noticed.'

Geraghty is also on the verge of a spot in the matchday squads for England, according to several pundits close to the international coaching team.

And he says he is 'delighted' to be making the step up from the Saxons, which was his primary contact with England at the start of the season.

'I was in the Saxons at the start of the season and I'm happy to be in the main squad again,' he said.

'Hopefully I can be involved. My form's been improving each game.

'I'm happy with my form, am enjoying my rugby here at Northampton and am in the position where I've been able to push for England honours.'

England begin the autumn international series at Twickenham against Australia on November 7th before hosting Argentina a week later and finishing off against the All Blacks on November 21st.ADNFCR-708-ID-19435911-ADNFCR
