Funeral for PC Bill Barker
Hundreds of people have attended the funeral of a police officer killed when a bridge collapsed during the devastating floods in Cumbria last week.

PC Bill Barker, 44, was directing traffic away from Northside Bridge in Workington when it collapsed.

His body was later found on a beach some ten miles away.

The father-of-four has been described by Gordon Brown as a 'heroic and brave man', while Cumbria's chief constable Craig Mackey said he was a 'wonderful police officer and a real family man'.

His funeral service took place at St Mary and St Michael's church this afternoon.

Yesterday the Ministry of Defence confirmed 200 members of the armed forces would help build a temporary bridge in Workington.

A week after unprecedented rain fell in Cumbria local resident are still struggling to come to terms with the devastation.
