Richard Dunne and James Collins both scored headers from set pieces, and O'Neill believes set pieces are a crucial way to score goals if you want to succeed.
O'Neill said: 'Set-pieces are a part of football, and can get you crucial goals. I cam remember World Cup finals in the past that have been decided by set-pieces.
'The fact we have scored so many goals from set-pieces overshadows how we are playing in open play.
'We try to get the ball wide, and we have players who can electrify the crowd.'
Villa have beaten both Chelsea and Liverpool this season, and O'Neill believes his side can compete at the top end of the table.
'We can definitely compete with the big sides.
'We've a lot of good players in the team and it was a great effort against a top-quality team.
'My view is that anybody who finishes in front of Chelsea will win the Premier League.'
