Nelsen backs Dunn for England

Blackburn Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen backed team-mate David Dunn for a return to the England squad after he helped his side to a 3-2 win over rivals Burnley.

Dunn netted his side’s first as they came from behind to seal the three points, and Nelsen believes he can force his way into Fabio Capello’s thoughts ahead of the World Cup next year.

Nelsen said: “With the performances David has been producing lately, he must be knocking on Capello’s door for a place in the England squad.

“He has been a big success for us this season.”

Dunn was quick to play down his chances of representing England again, but was pleased with his form this season.

Dunn said: “It is going to be hard to break into the squad with the amount of good players in the team at the moment, but if I can keep doing my best for Blackburn, then who knows.”

The Blackburn playmaker believes it was vital that his side secured three points against Burnley, with the prospect of consecutive games away to Chelsea and Manchester United looming large.

“We have some very difficult games coming up so it was important to secure three points,' he said.

“You could see how much winning this game meant to the fans so scoring was great, but making sure we won the game was obviously more important.”ADNFCR-708-ID-19415842-ADNFCR
