Edu claims racist abuse by Gers fans

Maurice Edu claims he was racially abused by Rangers fans after defeat to Unirea Urziceni
Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu has claimed he was racially abused by some of the club's own fans after last night's disappointing defeat to Unirea Urziceni.

The Scottish champions suffered a second consecutive 4-1 home defeat in the Champions League, after two own goals contributed to a second half capitulation as they surrendered a 1-0 lead against their Romanian opponents.

The result means the Gers face an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages after a draw in Stuttgart and a 4-1 defeat to Sevilla in their previous two games.

And the anger on the terraces seems to have spilled over after United States international Edu - who didn't play at Ibrox last night - claimed he was treated to a volley of abuse in the car park outside the ground.

He said on social networking site Twitter this morning: 'Not sure what hurt more: result last nite or being racially abused by couple of r own fans as I'm getting in my car.'

The club have so far issued no comment on the allegations.

Edu joined Rangers from MLS side Toronto FC in August last year for a fee of £2.6 million. He has since made 13 appearances for the club, scoring twice.ADNFCR-708-ID-19419470-ADNFCR
