The front-row complained of severe neck pain in Wasps' European Challenge Cup match against Racing Metro at Adams Park and was sent for consultation with a neurosurgeon by the club's medical team.
It has since been decided that Vickery, who was expected to start for England against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand in November's internationals, will undergo surgery on his neck.
He is not expected to return until at least the end of January next year.
The loss of Vickery puts further pressure on England's front row, with fellow prop Andrew Sheridan also ruled out of the autumn internationals yesterday when Sale announced he needs full reconstructive surgery on his shoulder.
England coach Martin Johnson is also missing a host of other stars, including centre Riki Flutey, full-back Delon Armitage (both shoulder) and Wasps pair Simon Shaw (metatarsal) and Danny Cipriani (fractured fibula).
