The Foreign Office has said Marion O'Hara, 57, was killed when rocks fell from the cliffs above the beach in the Los Gigantes resort.
Despite efforts by local rescue workers, Ms O'Hara and a local female were killed in the landslide at 16:00 local time. At least four others could still be trapped under the rocks.
A British holidaymaker told Sky News: 'Police were aware the cliff was dangerous for days, but the only thing they put in place was a bit of builder's tape.'
