The Brazilian has been considering a move to American racing since being sacked by Renault after this year’s Hungarian grand prix, after which he has been embroiled in the race-fixing scandal that led to an indefinite ban for former team boss Flavio Briatore, a five-year ban for the team’s ex director of engineering Pat Symonds and a two-year suspended ban for Renault.
Piquet was granted immunity to punishment at the extraordinary hearing of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris, but despite not being sanctioned, the young-Brazilian’s F1 career appears to be over, forcing him to look elsewhere.
He will test a Toyota Tundra truck with the Red Horse Racing team, alongside fellow Brazilian Vitor Meira, who currently races in the Indycar Series.
In a statement, Red Horse Racing owner Tom deLoach said: 'We look forward to helping Meira and Piquet make the transition into Nascar.
'It's not an easy thing to do to go from an open wheel background to racing stock cars but they are both immensely talented and have the ability to be successful in any series they chose to race in.'
