Matt Lucas's former civil partner found dead

The ex-civil partner of comedian Matt Lucas has been found hanged, ten months after the pair divorced, it has emerged.

The body of Kevin McGee, 32, was found by police at the television producer's Edinburgh flat at 08:00 BST on Monday morning.

Mr McGee, who married Little Britain actor Lucas in a civil partnership ceremony in 2006, had earlier left a tragic message on his page on the Facebook social networking site.

'Kevin McGee thinks death is much better than life,' he had written in the early hours of Monday morning.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr McGee's death.

'Police were called to an address in Bruntsfield Gardens around 08:00 BST yesterday morning where a 32-year-old man was found dead,' a statement read.

'There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.'

Reports claim police found Mr McGee at his apartment in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh having been alerted by a concerned friend who saw Mr McGee's Facebook update.

Lucas, currently starring in a West End production of Joe Orton's Prick Up Your Ears, and Mr McGee sealed their civil partnership in December 2006 but announced their separation in June 2008, just 18 months later.

Lucas, 35, is said to be 'utterly destroyed' by the news of Mr McGee's death.

'Matt was floored when he heard the news. He always loved Kevin despite their differences and their difficult marriage,' a friend was quoted by the Sun as saying.
