Duck house MP 'refuses to pay back expenses'

An MP notorious for his claim for a duck house during the expenses scandal has refused to pay back £40,000, reports state.

Sir Peter Viggers claimed £1,645 for a floating duck house for his pond, among a list of expenses which left the Conservative party embarrassed.

Now a Sunday newspaper has claimed Sir Peter has refused to pay back the £40,000 he was ordered to refund, which included an electrician's bill, which, among other jobs, listed the cost of 'hanging lights on a Christmas tree'.

Sir Peter has already paid back £10,000 since the expenses scandal was revealed by the Daily Telegraph. All MPs expense claims have been audited by Sir Thomas Legg since the scandal was made public.

The Conservative MP has been ordered to step down at the next general election by Tory leader David Cameron.
