The four England internationals are joined on the prestigious list by fellow Premier League stars Fernando Torres (Liverpool and Spain), Michael Essien (Chelsea and Ghana), Didier Drogba (Chelsea and Ivory Coast) and Michael Ballack (Chelsea and Germany).
The list also features last year's winner Cristiano Ronaldo, who made headlines over the summer for his world record £80 million transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
In total there are ten Spanish-based players included, as well as four playing in Serie A, and one (Frank Ribery) who plays in the German Bundesliga.
No nominees come from outside the European leagues.
In terms of national team representation, Spain have the most nominees with six followed by England's four.
Brazil have three players on the list, France have two while Portugal, Argentina, Italy, Ghana, Germany, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Sweden have one each.
