Everton 0-2 Liverpool

Joseph Yobo own goal and Dirk Kuyt strike give Liverpool 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park
Liverpool got their season back on track with a 2-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park in a somewhat muted Merseyside derby.

The Toffees dominated for much of the game on home turf, but failed to take their chances, conceding two goals to the Reds, the first goal of the game a somewhat unlucky ricochet.

Liverpool opened the scoring after only 12 minutes, when Javier Mascherano's 25-yard shot took a wild deflection off Joseph Yobo's leg and past the keeper.

Despite the early lead Rafael Benitez's side were kept on their toes as Jo, playing alone up front, twice netted the ball, only to be ruled offside by referee Alan Wiley.

Late in the second half Liverpool sealed the score, when Albert Riera's shot was saved by Everton keeper Howard, only to be tapped in from six yards by Dirk Kuyt.

In the blistering rain, a hard fought game from both sides was had, but it just wasn't Everton's day. For a derby, the game was relatively tame, seeing just one booking for Everton's Heitinga.

After the game Everton boss David Moyes said: 'You have to earn your luck. We worked really hard and I was hoping we'd earn that luck but we didn't. It was disappointing. But we also missed some chances.' ADNFCR-708-ID-19484558-ADNFCR
