Ecclestone has been in talks with the Northamptonshire circuit since Donington Park lost the rights to host the race when it failed to organise its finances in time.
However, it s believed that the terms of the deal are similar to those rejected by Silverstone 18 months ago - terms which the circuit did not deem to be commercially viable.
This has delayed the signing of a deal and puts the future of the British grand prix at risk.
However, Ecclestone told the Daily Express newspaper that there was no significant disagreement between himself and Silverstone.
'They say there is not much between us and them, so they should sign,' Ecclestone was quoted as saying.
'Maybe they have lost their pen, but if they don't find it in the next day or two then that is it.
'I will pull the race off the calendar and there will be no British grand prix to argue about.'
