A suicide bomb in southern Russia is believed to have killed 11 people in an attack today.
Officials have said the death toll currently stands at 11, but could rise, with at least 50 other people injured by the bomb.
It has been reported the bomb, which went off in Nazran in the republic of Ingushetia, was the work of a suicide bomber, who rammed a vehicle into the gates of a police compound.
The republic borders Chechnya, where fighting has spilled over from to include a spate of recent shootings and bombings on government and police officials. This latest attack is believed to have occurred as police lined up for a morning check.
A statement obtained by the AFP news agency quote officials as saying the attack was 'powerful', with the bomb driven into the police station inside a small, Russian-made truck.
The Associate Press reported at least 14 dead and 60 wounded. Their source also claimed nine children were among the wounded. The blast was detonated with such force nearby buildings were damaged and fires were still raging some hours later.
Bloodshed in Chechnya has increased in recent months, with neighbouring Russian regions, including Ingushetia feeling much of the impact. Less than a week ago the republic's construction minister was shot dead.
