The FIAs new sporting and technical regulations for 2010 includes a change to the qualifying format, in order to accommodate the larger grid, which will be made up of 26-cars.
The hour long session will still be split into three phases, but eight drivers will be knocked out in the first 20-minute Q1 session, with another eight being dropped in the second 15 minute Q2 session, leaving ten drivers to fight it out in the final ten minute Q3 session for pole position.
The new regulations also take into consideration, the refuelling ban for 2010 and Q3 will now be a low-fuel session.
The FIA document also states that the governing body has opted to keep the current points system, rather than replacing it with Bernie Ecclestones proposed medal system.
KERS will still be allowed under the 2010 regulations, despite FOTA agreeing not to use the technology next season, and each cars minimum weight will be raised to 620kg, taking into consideration the additional weight of the KERS system.
